Team India’s express fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. It is certainly yet another setback in the pacer’s return to international cricket.
Bumrah has been sidelined since August 2022 due to Injury. In the process, he has missed multiple T20 series and Asia Cup. He had recovered to play the T20 series against Australia, but aggravated his injury in the process and missed the bus to Down Under for the all-important T20 World Cup.
In the build-up to the ODI World Cup in India, Bumrah is all set to miss many ODIs and hence lose out on useful preparation for the mega event.
Akhtar’s warning
Former Pakitan fast bowler Shoiab Akhtar has warned Team India and Bumrah to manage the workload properly to avoid injuries.
“Bumrah’s bowling is based on frontal action. Fast bowlers with this kind of action bowl with their back and shoulder speed. It puts tremendous pressure on the back. It is very hard to escape injury with the typical action,” said Akhtar during an interview.
“Bumrah’s open-chested, front-on bowling action needs careful execution to avoid injuries. While Bumrah’s unique action is a major reason for him being the world’s best to find pace, deceiving batsman and finding swings in both ways, it is also injury-prone at the same time,” he said.
As per Akhtar, BCCI and the bowler himself must have a proper planning for workload management to prolong his career.
“Everybody knows how important Bumrah is for India. Hence a proper workload management plan should be placed to use the unorthodox pacer in the best way,” said Akhtar.
