Sachin Tendulkar
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, known as the ‘Master Blaster’ for his spectacular innings with the bat, was often India’s last hope. In many matches, the responsibility of taking the entire team to victory rested on his shoulders and the iconic player delivered them effortlessly. However, despite all of his laurels and achievements, he has one regret and it involves Pakistan.
In an interaction with India Today in March 2023, a clip of which was shared on Instagram, Tendulkar opened up about his biggest regret, which was tied to a test match against Pakistan.
The game in question took place during Pakistan's tour of India in 1999 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and was highly anticipated as the arch-rivals faced off after nearly a decade.
In the first innings, Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed for a duck, but he made a remarkable comeback in the second innings when India found themselves in deep trouble at 82/5 while chasing a target of 271 runs.
Battling severe back spasms, the Master Blaster played one of his most memorable innings, scoring 136 runs. Additionally, his partnership with Nayan Mongia gave India hope, but with just 17 runs needed for victory, Tendulkar was dismissed by Saqlain Mushtaq and India crumbled thereafter immediately, falling short of victory by just 12 runs.
Despite his heroic efforts, the cricketer was left heartbroken and inconsolable. He was awarded the 'Player of the Match' but was too emotional to collect it.
Reflecting on this moment, Sachin Tendulkar admitted that not receiving the award is one of his biggest regrets.
“I should have controlled my emotions and I should have gone and faced the world. I should have taken that award,” he said during that interaction.
Regardless, his effort against Pakistan is still remembered as one of the greatest innings in cricket, highlighting his ability to handle immense pressure and deliver when it mattered the most.
