Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar's friendship soured after Kambli accused Sachin of not supporting him. Their bond further strained post-retirement, with exclusion from a get-together.

Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli

Team India batters Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar were good friends since they were 10 years old. Both the cricketers witnessed many ups and downs in their career. Eventually, Sachin went on to become one of the greats of the game. However, Kambli failed to reach great heights and gradually perished after showing initial promise.

As per sources, friendship between both the cricketers hit rock bottom when Kambli accused his best friend Sachin of not supporting him through his lows in a massive claim during an Indian reality show. The impact was such that both the friends didn’t speak with each other for few years. Even, when Sachin retired, he didn’t mention about Kambli in his speech. Moreover, Sachin even left the southpaw out of a post-retirement get-together.

However, this was not the first instance when Kambli made Sachin upset. In a recent interaction, Kambli’s former teammate Sanjay Manjrekar has recalled about another incident when the southpaw criticised Sachin and him.

“Vinod Kambli was in the Indian World Cup team in 1992. However, he didn’t get a place in the team for the first few matches and as a result he was a bit upset. Sachin and I played all the matches. But after every match, Kambli criticised our batting by saying that we could have played faster,” said Manjrekar.

“Though Sachin and I had a good partnership against Zimbabwe and we won the match, Kambli criticised us by saying that we played slow and we should have won the match earlier. If there is one person who could upset Sachin, that is Vinod Kambli,” he added.
