Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson and coach Rahul Dravid
Rajasthan Royals (RR) regular captain Sanju Samson has been sidelined due to a side strain in the ongoing IPL 2025. The wicketkeeper-batsman has so far missed three matches due to niggles. RR are reportedly monitoring Samson's fitness on daily basis.
Meanwhile, RR head coach Rahul Dravid has recently provided important update on Samson's availability. According to Dravid, though Samson is recovering well, the franchise would not want to rush the wicketkeeper-batter.
"Sanju is recovering well but we just have to take it day-by-day. It's a side-strain and sometimes these side strains can be a bit tricky and we don't want to harm him in the long run," said Dravid during a recent interaction.
"We are monitoring it on a daily basis and we will see how it pulls up. Every day we get reports whether he is available or not so we will take it day-by-day and see how he goes but he is very well looked after," he added.
Notably, speculation is rife that Samson will move to a different role, allowing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi to maintain their positions at the top. Samson may bat at No.3 for Rajasthan Royals after Vaibhav Suryavanshi's whirlwind knock against Gujarat Titans.
Samson’s adaptability has been a hallmark of his career, having successfully navigated different batting positions in the past. With a formidable record of 3035 runs from 92 innings and an average of 38, his leadership remains invaluable.
