The potential revival of the celebrated Champions League Twenty20 (CL T20) tournament could soon be in discussions, according to Indian Premier League (IPL) chair, Arun Dhumal. This tournament, which brought together the finest Twenty20 teams from domestic leagues worldwide, was halted in 2014 due to scheduling conflicts but may see a comeback if the calendar allows.
Revival Possibilities
Arun Dhumal has indicated that with the IPL's current strength and the burgeoning success of franchise leagues globally, reinstituting the CL T20 is becoming increasingly possible.
Speaking on the matter, Mr Dhumal mentioned, "We've attempted this before, albeit perhaps prematurely. I'm open to possibilities, but everything hinges on whether we can allocate time for it. If it elevates cricket on a global platform, we're certainly open to exploring it."
Franchise Expansions Abroad
Despite eight out of ten IPL franchises venturing into international T20 leagues—including South Africa's SA20, England's The Hundred, and the Caribbean Premier League in the West Indies—the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues its policy of restricting Indian players from joining foreign leagues unless they retire.

However, Dhumal expressed pride in Indian franchises' role in promoting cricket globally. "We are delighted with the contributions by our franchises and enterprises in broadening the scope of cricket. As a leader in the sport, India's role is crucial in fostering cricket's growth globally, and we are very pleased with our progress," he said.
