Olympics 2036: India’s bid plans to host hockey in Bhubaneswar, include cricket

India plans to bid for the 2036 Olympics, marking its first attempt to host the event. PM Narendra Modi confirmed the bid at the 141st IOC session in Mumbai. Ahmedabad is speculated as a key city, with plans for a pan-India event.

India is all set to make an ambitious bid to host the 2036 Olympics. It will be for the first time that India will bid for the mega event for the first time in history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already confirmed India’s plan to bid for the mega event in the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) session held in Mumbai in 2023.  Subsequently, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) sent a letter in this regard to the IOC’s future host commission in 2023.

Though India has not confirmed their host city yet, reports published in some sections of the media claim that Ahmedabad will be the center of the bid. However, India government has planned to make the 2036 Olympics a pan-India movement. It means the mega event will be organised outside Gujarat as well.

As per the plan, cricket matches will take place in Mumbai, kayaking in Pune, canoeing in Bhopal. Moreover, Bhubaneshwar which boasts of world class facilities for hockey at the Kalinga Stadium may host the game in the mega event.

As per the reports, sports infrastructure worth Rs 6000 rupees will be set up in Ahmedabad and the city is all set to mount an aggressive bid for the Olympic games.

“We want to take the sports to other parts of India as well and make it a movement and celebration for the full country,” said an official.
