Gujarat opener Urvil Patel has emerged as the new sensation in T20 cricket. The swashbuckling batter smashed his second T20 century in just six days in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

Urvil smashed a 36-ball hundred to lead Gujarat to a commanding eight-wicket victory in just 13.1 overs. Thus he became the first batter in T20 cricket history to notch up two hundreds in fewer than 40 balls. Earlier a few days back, Urvil had struck a record-breaking 28-ball century against Tripura.

The 26-year-old aggressive batter was part of the Gujarat Titans squad for the IPL 2023 season. He was picked up for Rs 20 lakh. However, Urvil was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He did not get to play a single match. Though he entered the IPL 2025 Mega Auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, he unfortunately went unsold.

Urvil made his debut for Baroda back in 2018 in a T20 against Mumbai in Rajkot. He played in List A cricket in the same year as well. However, it took him six more years to play first-class cricket when he made his debut in the previous edition of the Ranji Trophy.

In 44 T20 matches, Urvil has scored 988 runs at an average of 23.52 and a strike-rate of 164.11 with a hundred and four fifties to his name.
