Three major new rules have been added to the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that will start from March 31.
As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, captains of the teams can now name their final playing eleven players after the toss is done. This move would allow teams to pick their best playing elevens based on whether they end up batting or bowling.
"Currently the captains have to exchange the teams before the toss. This has been changed to exchange of teams immediately post the toss, to enable teams to choose the best XI depending on whether they are batting or bowling first. It will also assist the teams to plan for the impact player," a report stated.
Earlier, South Africa’s SA20 was allowing franchises to announce their best XI players after the toss. With this new rule, IPL 2023 will become the second T20 franchise league to allow teams to announce their playing elevens after the toss.
Important Rules
- Unfair movement by keeper of fielders will result in dead ball and 5 penalty runs.
- Only 4 fielders will be allowed outside 30 yards for every over not completed within time.
IPL 2023 will begin with defending champions Gujarat Giants taking on four-time winners Chennai Super Kings on March 31 at the their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
