Team India wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan is among the contenders to be the first-choice wicketkeeper until Rishabh Pant returns to full fitness. However, Ishan has reportedly opted out of Duleep Trophy. In the process, the promising wicketkeeper-batsman missed a chance to prove himself in the longest format of the game ahead of India’s upcoming two-Test series in the West Indies.
Duleep trophy is scheduled to take place form June 28 to July 16. Ishan was the top contender to lead East Zone in the domestic first class tournament. However, he reportedly refused to play the tournament and in his absence Abhimany Easwaran will lead the side.
Though Ishan is among the top contenders to open the batting in limited overs cricket, the wicketkeeper-batsman is yet to make his Test debut. Fans and experts called for his inclusion in the Indian team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final after KS Bharat’s poor performance with the bat in India’s home series against Australia earlier this year.
However, India went with Bharat as their wicketkeeper with Kishan left on the bench for the final. Bharat’s dimal show continued and India eventually lost by 209 runs.
