IPL 2025
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced significant changes to the practice sessions for Indian Premier League (IPL) teams. In a new directive, reported by Cricbuzz, teams are now limited to seven practice sessions before the season starts, with only two warm-up games or centre wicket practice sessions allowed.
In the first of these, the BCCI has asked IPL centres not to allow grounds to be used for local games, legends leagues, or celebrity tournaments. The rationale behind this decision is reportedly the heavy usage of venues during domestic matches close to the IPL season.
However, the major rules that are to impact all franchises are related to practice sessions:
1. Teams can have a maximum of 7 practice sessions.
2. Each session lasts up to 3 hours.
3. Only 2 sessions may be used as practice matches or open net sessions.
4. Practice matches require written approval from the BCCI.
1. No practice sessions or matches are allowed on the main square during the 4 days before a team’s first home match.
2. During this period, each team is provided one side wicket for range hitting, bowling run-throughs, and other training.
3. This measure helps maintain the quality of the pitch for the season.

1. If both home and away teams request to practice at the same time, team managers must try to resolve the conflict.
2. If an agreement cannot be reached, the BCCI will step in to assign two separate 2-hour slots (e.g., 18:00–20:00 and 20:00–22:00) so that both teams get exclusive use of the ground.
Season Kickoff
Teams will have designated wickets for range hitting and other drills throughout their scheduled practice sessions. The BCCI has emphasized that open or partially open nets will not be entertained, and safety measures must be strictly followed, allowing only players, support staff, and net bowlers on the field during practice.
