After SRK, Juhi Chawla, Priety Zinta and Shilpa Shetty, Bollywood power couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh seems to have bitten by the IPL bug.

According to a report in Outlook India, Deepika and Ranveer are planning to bid for a new franchise in the cash-rich T20 league.

Deepika, who hails from a sports family (her father Prakash Padukone is a badminton legend while her sister is a professional golf player), is inclined to sports and also played badminton at the national level before joining the glamour industry. So, it is no surprise that she is interested in IPL, which is one of the biggest cricketing tournaments in the world.

Apart from Deepika and Ranveer, Adani Group, RP-Sanjeev Goenka Groups, Manchester United’s owners, the Glazer family have also shown interest in the IPL teams.

Notably, the IPL will become a 10-team tournament from next year. The BCCI had earlier extended the last date for interested parties to pick up the bidding papers to October 20.

As per reports, BCCI has shortlisted six cities for the eventual two new franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The six cities shortlisted for the T20 extravaganza include Cuttack, Guwahati, and Ranchi from the East, Ahmedabad in the West, Lucknow in the Central Zone and Dharamsala in the North.

According to a report by PTI, BCCI is expecting anything between Rs 7000 crore to 10,000 crore from the team bidding of IPL.

The BCCI had allowed consortiums and companies with an annual turnover of Rs 3000 crore to bid for teams while the base price for new IPL teams is pegged at Rs 2000 crore, the report added.

The new teams are expected to be unveiled on October 25 in Dubai, a day after India's mega clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.
