Number four is one of the most important positions in Test cricket. The No.4 batter often gives the required balance to the team batting line-up in the longest format of the game.

Virat Kohli was doing a great role while batting in the crucial position for over a decade. However, following Kohli's retirement from Tests, question mark has been raised on who will bat in the important position.

Some experts are of the opinion that KL Rahul should play in that position as he is currently the most experienced and technically sound batter in the Indian team.

However, former India star turned cricket expert Wasim Jaffer is of the opinion that KL Rahul should  play as an opener and form a pair with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the upcoming five Test matches against England. The two were impressive in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Jaffer further mentioned that promising batter Shubman Gill should move from No.3 to No.4 to replace Virat for the upcoming assignment.

"Shubman Gill is the right guy to bat at no.4. He plays as an opener in white-ball cricket, but he needs to move down to No.4 in Test cricket. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal were magnificent as openers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. I feel Rahul is best suited to open the batting. Why change something that is not broken?” said Jaffer in a recent interaction.

Moreover, Jaffer wants Sai Sudharsan to bat at No.3 in Tests. “Sai Sudharsan is a good batter and he should be given a longer run at No.3," said Jaffer.
