Team India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was cruising towards a century on the third day of the first Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.
However, England star Joe Root trapped him in front of the stumps. The umpire had also no issue in raising his finger. Subsequently, Jadeja opted for DRS referral straight away.
After analyzing the footage from multiple angles, the third umpire made the decision in the favour of the England team. However, the DRS decision sparked a debate among several fans across various social media platforms.
The Ultra Edge showed a big spike just as the ball passed the bat. But, the impact on the pad was also at the same time. Hence, it became inconclusive if the ball hit the bat before it hit the pad.
Reacting to the decision, a fan wrote, “Jadeja was brutally unlucky. Inside edge could not be determined. Umpire’s call on line. Umpire’s call on height. Basically DRS could not determine anything,” wrote a fan.
“The worst DRS review when 3rd umpire can’t make out whether it is bat or pad first for snickometer, benefit of doubt should be to batsman, followed by 2 umpires call on that Jadeja dismissal #INDvsENG,” tweeted another fan.
In his response, a third user commented, “One thing I didn’t understand in that Ravindra Jadeja LBW decision is if Marais Erasmus wasn’t able to determine if it’s bat first or pad first then why the fuck he went for ball tracking? If it’s inconclusive in case of a LBW call, isn’t it considered to be bat first? #INDvsENG.”
