The second day of the fourth Test between India and England witnessed an intriguing contest between both the teams at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Saturday.
In reply to England’s first innings total of 353, India got a bad start as captain Rohit Sharma fell cheaply. However, emerging batters Shubman Gill and Yashavi Jaiswal stitched a solid partnership to thwart the England bowlers to make further inroads.
Both Jaiswal and Gill scored at a steady rate before Shoiab Bashir scalped the wicket of Shubman Gill. However, before that, there was a controversial moment in the day’s play when England started celebrating after a grounded catch of Jaiswal.
The incident happened in the 20th over in Ollie Robinson’s bowling. After looking at the first replay, captain Ben Stokes and his team members started celebrating as the ball was edged by the Indian batter and went to wicketkeeper Ben Foakes. However, the third umpire decided after a couple of replays that the fall had dropped.
As soon as the third umpire gave Yashasvi Jaiswal not out, fans started slamming England by calling them ‘cheats’ over various social media platforms.
“England players are so rattled by Yashasvi Jaiswal that they sacrificed all their principles regarding Spirit Of Cricket and started appealing for a grounded catch. Next, they may finally try to run someone out at the non striker’s end,” wrote a fan on X (earlier known as Twitter).
“These England cricketers are cheats. Look at their cheap expressions as soon as the third umpire gave Yashasvi Jaiswal not out. It seems they have gone blind,” tweeted another fan.
“England were left wondering as a caught-behind decision of Yashasvi Jaiswal went against them,” commented a third user.
