Soon after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), T20 World Cup will get underway in West Indies and the USA from June 2. Fans are excited for the announcement of the Indian squad for the forthcoming marquee event.
BCCI is expected to announce India’s squad later this month. However, the selectors are spoilt for choices as far as the lone wicketkeeper’s spot in the squad is concerned. Lots of permutations and combinations are currently going on based on the performances of many wicketkeeper-batters in the mega league.
The likes of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Jitesh Sharma and KL Rahul are fighting for the lone wicketkeeper’s spot in the Indian squad. Interestingly, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has also been in the reckoning for his aggressive batting in IPL.
India’s skipper for T20 World Cup 2024-Rohit Sharma was asked about the chances of Dhoni and Karthik, and the veterans’ chances of boarding the flight to the USA in a recent interaction.
In response, Rohit joked that while Dhoni is ‘sick and tired’, Karthik could be a decent choice for the squad.
“I was quite impressed, especially with Dinesh Karthik. The way he batted a couple of nights back (vs SRH). Dhoni as well. He came to play four balls against us and made a huge impact with those 20 runs. Eventually it proved to be the difference in the end,” Rohit said during the interaction.
“It’ll be hard to convince MS Dhoni for the World Cup. He is sick and tired. He is coming to the US. He is into golf now so he’ll be playing that in the US. DK will be easier to convince,” the veteran cricketer added.
