Team India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been slammed for mocking classical music in an ad commercial.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, known for speaking his mind on socio-political issues, recently lashed out at the advertisement that shows Rishabh portraying a classical musician.
The aggressive cricketer can be seen cracking his funny bone in the commercial while taking a humorous take on Indian classical music.
This didn’t go down well with Mehta who called out Dream 11 for disrespecting ‘art and its rich tradition. The Scam 1992 director retweeted the ad and expressed his disappointment over it.
“This is a disgusting and disrespectful commercial. Pimp yourself but not at the cost of ridiculing art and its rich traditions. I demand that @Dream11 pulls this down,” Mehta captioned his post.
However, Mehta’s tweet evoked mixed reactions from netizens.
“Very true, despicable it is,” a netizen commented.
“It’s in bad taste. Sure. Agreed. But why pull it down? IMO, Freedom of expression should be absolute as long as it’s not inciting violence or harm to anyone. Also, art and it’s rich traditions will remain intact forever but silly ads like these will be forgotten in seconds,” another netizen commented.
