Following Team India’s poor performances for the last few months, head coach Gautam Gambhir’s role as the head coach is under scanner.
India suffered a humiliating series defeat against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar trophy. Moreover, India were also whitewashed 0-3 against New Zealand at home soil.
As per BCCI sources, Gambhir’s role as the head coach of the Indian cricket team is under scrutiny. It will be re-evaluated based on the team’s performance in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 next month.
After Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team in July last year, India have performed miserably losing six of their last 10 Tests and a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka.

Following Team India’s continuous poor performance, future of senior cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have also become uncertain. While Rohit is expected to announce his retirement from international cricket after the completion of the Champions Trophy, Kohli has to prove his worth again with consistent performances in the upcoming tournaments.
There are reports in some sections of the media that there has been rift between Rohit and some senior members of Team India. Though Gambhir’s contract runs until the 2027 World Cup, his performance is under constant review and if India fail to put up good results in the next couple of tournaments under his stewardship, he may be shown the door.
