MS Dhoni
Mahendra Singh Dhoni remains one of the biggest talking points whenever the Indian Premier League (IPL) returns. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper enjoys unwavering support from fans worldwide.
The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman commands an electrifying response, whether it’s his lightning-fast stumpings, monstrous sixes, or his signature calm demeanor while walking to the crease.
However, former CSK player Matthew Hayden has sparked discussions regarding Dhoni’s prolonged presence in the IPL. The Australian cricketer-turned-commentator believes the 42-year-old icon should step aside from playing duties and consider joining the commentary panel instead.
"Dhoni is playing this IPL unnecessarily. At that age, he should join us in the commentary panel. He should realize this until it's too late," Hayden remarked, questioning the necessity of Dhoni’s presence on the field despite his age.
In the past few seasons, Dhoni has consciously taken a backseat in CSK’s batting lineup, promoting younger players ahead of him. The legendary captain has embraced the role of a finisher, coming in towards the end of innings to provide late fireworks. Despite limited batting appearances, Dhoni has continued to maintain a commendable strike rate, making the most of the few deliveries he faces.
While Hayden believes it’s time for Dhoni to step away, CSK management and fans continue to place faith in their leader’s tactical acumen. Under his captaincy, CSK clinched their fifth IPL title in 2023, proving his leadership remains invaluable to the team.
With IPL 2025 underway, the debate surrounding Dhoni’s future intensifies. Will this be his final season, or will he continue to defy expectations? Only time will tell.
