Ayush Mhatre
India U-19 captain Ayush Mhatre finally returned to form as he got his name into the record books. Mhatre put the English bowlers to the sword as India were chasing a target of 355 to win the Test on the final day of the match on Wednesday.
In the first innings of the ongoing match, Mhatre scored a brilliant 80 off 90 balls. England had declared their innings at 324 for five, setting India a mammoth total to chase.
However, India had a bad start as Vaibhav Suryavanshi suffered a rare failure and was dismissed for a golden duck. Mhatre started the innings slowly and then quickly changed gears.
Mhatre got to his fifty in 25 balls as the visitors turned the chase into one we would see in ODIs as they scored 78 off the first 10 overs. By the time Vihaan Malhotra fell, India posted 104 runs by 14 overs.
Mhatre reached his century in only 64 balls, making it the third-fastest Youth Test hundred in all recorded history. Only Moeen Ali (56 balls) and Suryavanshi (58) have recorded quicker Youth Test hundreds.
