Emotions were on cloud nine as Afghanistan scripted an unimaginable victory by beating the 2021 T20 World Champions Australia by 21 runs in Kingston. They managed to defend after scoring 148 runs against an explosive Australian batting lineup.
Former West Indies player Dwayne Bravo is associated with the Afghanistan team as a mentor and has also played an integral role in his team’s success.
Rashid Khan-led unit had thumped New Zealand in the group stage and crossing the line against Australia was even more special.
After the win, Afghanistan cricketers paid famous tribute to Bravo while going back to the team hotel. Bravo’s famous song champion was played on the bus and the Afghan players were seen dancing. They were seen enjoying and tuning to the dance beats of Champions (Chennai Super Cubs) song which is officially sung by Dwayne Bravo.
After Afghanistan staged an upset, The Group 1 Table gets wide open as 3 teams are firmly in the fray to book their spot in the Semis of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
As the Points Table Stands, the Indian team is firmly placed at the top with 4 points, and Australia and Afghanistan are in second and third place respectively. The USA is placed at the bottom.
Australia will take on India on June 24 which will decide their fate for a place in the Semi-Final of ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
