Salem: An employee of a jewellery shop here has been arrested for theft of gold ingots valued at Rs 75 lakh about three months back, police said.
They said the employee had reported the ingots stolen while returning to nearby Omalur with the ingots purchased from a jewellery shop in Thiruvananthapuram on February 19. Police grew suspicious after both driver and conductor said they had not stopped anywhere during the journey.
On being questioned, the man confessed to having packed the ingots in a plastic bag and buried it at a spot near a factory at Omalur, they said.
