The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday organised the Shakti Vandan Workshop at the party’s Bhubaneswar office.

Sources said the main objective of holding such a workshop is to woo women, voters of self-help groups, ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The workshop was attended by Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who gave mantras to party workers on how to wean women voters from the other side. The party will prepare a blueprint to woo these targeted voters.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given us a target to create two crore lakhpati didis. There are many such didis who are saving lakhs of rupees. In the days to come, our didis will be self-reliant,” said the minister.

While targeting the Biju Janata Dal (BJD)-led government for hijacking central schemes, she said, “I had visited a Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana beneficiary’s house in Puri. There I noticed ‘Biju Awas’ written on the wall. The state government shouldn’t have done this.”

Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das hit out at the Union Minister and said, “It is so sad that the BJP has assumed our mothers to be their vote bank. Now, they are remembering the mothers. Where were they? Did they forget about empowering them? Now, as the election is around the corner, they have come out of deep slumber.”
