NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu returned from New Delhi to Odisha on Friday to a rousing welcome in the state Capital.
The daughter of the soil was accorded a grand reception at Bhubaneswar airport before she was escorted to State Guest House.
She will have a meeting with legislators and parliamentarians of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and hold discussions on President’s election with BJD and BJP leaders.
Besides, the BJP has planned to have a special meeting with her. Murmu will also have a 30-minute meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Nivas.
“Everybody is happy over Murmu’s arrival in Odisha. I am thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Parliamentary board for selecting the right presidential candidate,” said Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi.
Soon after she was named Presidential candidate by NDA, the Centre provided Murmu round-the-clock Z+ category security cover by armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) starting.
She is the first woman and a tribal leader from Odisha to be appointed a Governor in an Indian state. If elected, Murmu will be the first tribal President of India and the second-ever female President.
The presidential elections are scheduled for July 18.
