Working president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) and former MP Pradeep Majhi has finally resigned from the primary membership of Congress. Majhi has sent his resignation letter to the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi.

In the letter to the party's interim president, Majhi said, "I have a great desire to serve my people at whatever position I am which is now lacking in the Congress party. As such I am painfully quieting the party for which I may kindly be excused. I shall however will perform my duties as per your ideology and serve the people with utmost satisfaction. "

Speculations were earlier rife that Majhi would quit Congress. Majhi intensified the speculation after stating that there is not much ideological difference between the Congress and the BJD.

Hinting at joining a regional outfit, Majhi had said that there is a greater scope of serving people from a regional party in the State as it has a wider base than his own party, Congress.

However, when the senior leader was asked whether he would consider joining the BJD, he had maintained that there is no question of him joining the ruling party in Odisha.

Rumours are making rounds that Majhi, who was allegedly ignored by the AICC,  is eyeing a Rajya Sabha seat and talks are on with the ruling BJD over the same.

Besides, a couple of months ago, Odisha Congress had witnessed an internal feud in the unit after its senior leaders Majhi and Tara Prasad Bahinipati openly indulged in verbal duels.

Tara had then slammed Majhi by raising questions over the latter’s defeat in the last Lok Sabha polls. Tara had also alleged that Majhi is behind all the feuds in undivided Koraput district.

Meanwhile, on Majhi's resignation, Tara said that the former's resignation will have no impact on the party. He said, "Some are quitting the party before their suspension. If he really had served people, why did he lose election twice?"
