Odisha BJP workers on Monday turned the heat on the Odisha government by staging all out protests across the State in pursuit of justice for the family of murdered Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher and appropriate action against the perpetrators of the horrific crime.   

Kalahandi

Protestors pelted eggs at the Women & Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahu's car during her visit to Narla in Kalahandi on Monday. Workers belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress waved black flags and hurled eggs on a vehicle carrying Sahu while she was returning from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's programme to distribute Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) smart health cards at the OUAT premises in Bhawanipatna.

On the same day, another Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Minister came under a shower of eggs in the same district over demands for justice to slain lady teacher Mamita Meher. Minister of State Tourism and Culture Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi was on his way back from a programme held in Kalampur when the protesters hurled eggs at his car. The agitated protesters also greeted the Minister with black flags at the minister along with missiles of eggs. 

Bhubaneswar

Hundreds of saffron party workers took out a protest march from the Raj Mahal square holding black flags and shouting slogans against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Some of them were taken into custody by police near the Sishu Bhawan square while they were trying to march towards the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Some others also displayed black flags at the Airport square, in the vicinity of Naveen Niwas, in protest against the Chief Minister’s silence over the murder in which the Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra’s role is suspected.

Cuttack

BJP workers staged demonstrations against the State government by staging a dharna in front of the CMC office. They shouted slogans against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Home Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra and Law Minister Pratap Jena and burnt their effigies.

Sambalpur

Several BJP workers clashed with the police in Sambalpur while taking out a rally as a mark of protest against the Odisha government’s lackadaisical probe into the murder case that has invoked nation-wide outrage and condemnation.

Seeking justice for Mamita, the Opposition activists tried to break the police barricade and gherao the Sambalpur DIG office during the rally. Police used water cannons to disperse the protestors following a clash with them.

As per reports, the police have arrested veteran BJP leader and MLA Jaynarayan Mishra, Nauri Nayak and youth leader Irashis Acharya.

Balasore

BJP activists staged demonstrations in front of Balasore Sadar Block office and demanded the resignation of Odisha Home Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra.

“Our protests will continue until Mishra tenders his resignation,” said a BJP youth leader.

Kalahandi

Tension erupted at Karlamunda in Kalahandi district when Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Premamnanda Nayak was distributing Biju Swasthya Kalyan smart cards at the block office. BJP and Congress protestors held demonstrations at the spot and locked up the office.

Agriculture minister Arun Sahoo also faced the wrath of the Opposition protestors when he was distributing Biju Swasthya Kalyan smart cards at Kesinga in the district. Police arrested several BJP workers when they staged demonstrations at the venue.
