The Monsoon session of Odisha Assembly started with a stormy note today. Post the passing of condolence motion as a tribute to the departed senior BJD leader and former minister Bijayshree Routray, din ruled in the house and the Speaker has gone for the first adjournment of the House on the day 1 of the monsoon session.

With the spectre of drought looming large over as many as 27 districts in the State, belligerent opposition has decided to corner the ruling BJD. In order to take the government to task, the Opposition has moved an adjournment motion over the present 'drought-like' situation in Odisha and the State government's alleged 'inaction', soon after the daily proceedings of the State Legislative Assembly concluded.

According to sources, Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment Minister Arun Sahoo is likely to furnish the reply on the matter raised by Opposition. More fireworks are set to start when the house decides to take up the motion.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved the condolence motion in the House via Video Conference as a mark of tribute to the former minister and senior BJD leader Bijayshree Routray, other several senior leaders who had recently passed away.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Pradipta Naik, who is convalescing in a hospital, has also attended the monsoon session through VC and he seconded the motion moved by CM.
