With the resignation of BJD leader and former Bhubaneswar North MLA, Priyadarshi Mishra, the ruling party’s headache for rebel leaders has compounded.

Hours after snapping his ties with the BJD, Mishra joined the BJP. In 2019, the BJD didn’t give him a ticket and it is learnt that the party assured him a ticket in 2024. After waiting for five years when he felt that the hope of getting a ticket was becoming slender, he snapped his two-decade-long association with the BJD.

In the Bhubaneswar North constituency, there was no significant challenge to BJD. But, after the resignation of Mishra, the whole situation has changed altogether. As he has joined the BJP, he is likely to be fielded from the constituency. The prevailing wave of BJP and his sway over the people of the constituency may put BJD in a tight spot.

“I felt the party was again going to betray me. So I decided to quit the party. I will contest this election and I have informed the same to my previous party,” said Mishra.

The BJD is also grappling with the same situation in Bhubaneswar Central and Bhubaneswar Ekamra constituencies.

In Bhubaneswar Central, four-time corporator Amaresh Jena is aspiring for a BJD ticket. He is openly opposing MLA Ananta Narayan Jena.

The situation in Bhubaneswar Ekamra is worse. Here, a senior corporator, Biranchi Narayan Mahasupakar is hopeful of a ticket and is throwing an open challenge to present MLA Ashok Chandra Panda.

Meanwhile, both Amaresh and Biranchi have visited Naveen Nivas to submit their profiles to the party supremo. They have already clarified that they would definitely contest the elections.

Like Mishra, if Amaresh and Biranchi cross over to other parties, it would cost the BJD dearly.

“I had a very positive meeting with Pandian sir. I hope the Chief Minister won’t let me down,” said Biranchi Narayan Mahasupakar, an aspirant for the Bhubaneswar Ekamra ticket.

“We have competent candidates. The party is analysing. Our Chief Minister is taking care of every aspect. Right candidates will be fielded in the elections,” said BJD MLA Parshuram Dhada.
