Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Durga Prasan Nayak who was elected from the Mahakalapada Assembly seat in Kendrapara got the highest number of votes in the 2024 Assembly elections in Odisha.

Durga Prasan Nayak defeated BJD veteran and former minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak by a margin of 33, 526 votes.

The BJP leader polled 1,09,653 votes in the election.

Speaking to OTV on his electoral success, the young BJP leader said, "People are God. When they give a mandate, no one is powerful enough to block it. After Mahakalapara was made a constituency in 2009, no developmental works have been done so far. It remained as backwards as ever. Hence, there was public resentment.”

Moreover, he also pointed out that people were given false promises during each election and the leaders were always misleading people on fake promises.

Taking a dig at his rival BJD leader, Durga said, “People fought their own battle and defeated ‘Michua Radhua’ (liar) Nayak. I will give credit for my success to the people. They saved themselves from the long years of misgovernance and torture.”

He also alleged that Nayak used to cheat innocent Bengali-speaking people with false promises and people understood that and gave a befitting reply this time.
