As polling in the first phase progressed in Odisha, incidents of violence were reported from two places in Nabarangpur and Ganjam on Monday. 

The candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Narasingha Bhatra for the Jharigaon Assembly seat under the Nabarangpur Parliamentary constituency was allegedly attacked by a group of people.

As per reports, the BJP leader went to booth 204 in Deulakona village to see how the polling was going on. 
As he came out of the polling station, he was allegedly kicked and attacked by some BJD workers.

The BJP leader filed a complaint at Jharigaon Police Station against the BJD workers.

Speaking to the media, the BJP candidate said, “After getting inside the booth, I enquired about the poll percentage. When I got out of the booth, some drunken people asked me why I was in the booth and they pushed, kicked and attacked me. They manhandled and misbehaved with me. They also abused me.” 

Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the incident.

In another incident, two BJP agents were allegedly attacked by some people at a booth in Berhampur. The incident took place at Mohammedan Government School while the polling was underway. A police complaint was filed, informed sources. Later, BJP workers staged a road blockade.
