At a time when the suspense over the speculated alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP ) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is deepening with each passing day, the Congress is busy preparing its list of candidates. 

While answering the queries of reporters, Congress' Odisha in-charge, Ajoy Kumar said that the first list of candidates will be sent to the party’s Central Election Committee by March 20. 

“In the first phase, the names of candidates for 32 Assembly and 10 Lok Sabha seats will be sent to the CEC by March 20. The second list will be sent by March 25 or 27,” said Kumar.

Notably, the party’s screening committee meeting to finalize candidates for Odisha was held in New Delhi on March 9. The leaders held a discussion on the list of candidates for the Odisha Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections approved by the Pradesh Election Committee. 

As per the procedure, after the Screening Committee’s approval, the list of probable candidates will be sent to the Central Election Committee (CEC). The CEC will prepare a final list and send the same to the party high command for approval.
