Hundreds of BJP workers on Monday gheraoed the Khordha Sub Collector’s office demanding the unconditional release of Chilika MLA and BJP's candidate for the Khordha Assembly seat, Prashant Jagdev, who was arrested on the charges of toppling an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the third phase of polling at a booth in Kaunripatana village under the Bolagarh block of Khordha district.

The agitators demanded action against Jagdev only after verification of CCTV footage.

“We demand his (Prashant Jagdev) unconditional release. Without verification of CCTV footage, he has been arrested under various sections,” said a female BJP worker.

Another party worker demanded that the CCTV footage should be made public.

Notably, the MLA along with his wife had gone to the booth to cast his vote when it was alleged that he toppled the EVM. Based on the complaint filed by the presiding officer, Police picked up Jagdev from Begunia from where he was taken to the reserve police camp. Later, he was arrested.
