A day after quitting the Indian National Congress, senior leader Chiranjib Biswal on Sunday joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Biswal joined the BJD in the presence of senior leaders at a function held in Bhubaneswar today.

Biswal is the son of Congress stalwart Basant Kumar Biswal. He submitted his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak yesterday.

Biswal's exit is seen as a major blow to the Congress unit in Odisha as its senior leaders have been claiming to form government by winning 90 out of 147 assembly seats in the 2024 elections.
