10 Congress supporters injured in poll violence in Odisha's Basudevpur

At least 10 Congress supporters were injured after allegedly attacked by BJD workers at Basudevpur in Bhadrak district. As per initial reports, the Congress supporters were allegedly attacked when they were returning after the last phase polls which were held at several places in Odisha on Saturday.

The incident reportedly took place at Khasarbadi village under Basudevpur block. Sources said that an argument had reportedly broken between the BJD and Congress workers at booth number 236 yesterday.

It is alleged that the Congress supporters were allegedly attacked with swords and sticks when they were returning after the voting period. Around 10 Congress supporters were injured in the attack. Of the total injured, six of them have been shifted to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital.

Congress worker, Rashmi Ranjan Mohanty said, "They (BJD) workers wanted to forcibly cast a vote which was opposed by our polling agent who was threatened inside the booth. Later, our supporters were attacked when they were returning after the polls."

Meanwhile, no comments could be obtained from the BJD over the allegations made by the Congress.

Not only Basudevpur, but large-scale violence has also been reported from Kendrapara, Salepur and other parts which went to polls in the last phase on Saturday.
