Chhatra Congress activists in Odisha on Sunday hurled eggs on Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra’s vehicle in Bhubaneswar to protest against the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

The activists reportedly poured ink and waved black flags to Mishra, who is currently on a visit to Odisha to take part in a programme, near Biju Patnaik International Airport.

Tension erupted near the Bhubaneswar Airport chhak after the incident. Later, police detained some members of the Chhatra Congress to prevent any untoward situation.

The activists demanded dismissal of Mishra from the Union Cabinet and condemned the violence at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh.

Mishra’s son Ashish was earlier arrested in connection with the death of farmers and some others at Lakhimpur Kheri.

“Odisha is a State of farmers. We had warned the Minister before not to allow him entry into Odisha due to his son’s alleged involvement in Lakhimpur Kheri violence. We will not allow anybody to indulge in violence against the farmers,” said Odisha Chhatra Congress President Rajat Choudhury.

“Our protest will continue across the State against the anti-farmer policy of the Union government and till the Minister (Mishra) tenders his resignation,” said Choudhury.

“We seek justice for the family members of the deceased farmers as well as those who have lost their lives during the protest. In the coming days, we will not allow any Union Minister to enter Odisha,” he added.
