Workers and leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday gheraoed the Odisha Staff Selection Commission's (OSSC) office at Bhubaneswar over allegations of mass corruption in the recruitment process by the government agency.
As per reports, BJP leader Babu Singh led the party workers in gheraoing the OSSC office. The saffron party activists took out a procession from the Power House Square to the OSSC office in the Capital city in the afternoon.
Though the procession was by and large peaceful, a minor scuffle broke out between the police and BJP workers when the latter tried to enter the OSSC office forcefully. Following the incident, several protesters were taken into custody.
"The educated youths of Odisha are now staring at an uncertain future because of large scale corruption in recruitments by the OSSC. BJP took a stand to protest it on the face of 'government goondas' for which we have been arrested. We strongly denounce the police action," said Babu Singh.
Singh, who was the party candidate for Ekamra constituency in the last concluded Assembly polls, said "We will intensify our protest further."
Earlier on July 31, the Vigilance sleuths arrested the Private Secretary to a Member of OSSC- Biranchi Narayan Sahoo following raids at different locations on July 30. He came under Vigilance scanner following allegations of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Odisha government sent Sahoo on compulsory retirement while further investigation is underway.
