Mosquito menace has been synonymous with Cuttack city. And instances of political parties contesting elections making it their poll agenda to end the problem for good are galore.
Elections have come and gone as well, but the menace which has been the top the wish list of Cuttack people, still remains unsolved.
This corporation election, the residents of Cuttack have made a resolve to elect the candidate who would genuinely take steps to take steps to rid the Millennium city of mosquito problem.
Two homemakers said their lives have become a living hell due to mosquitos. They said their children are facing problems while studying.
A senior citizen who was down with Dengue said he has been living in Cuttack city since 1976. “To my utter dismay, piles of garbage can be found everywhere and none seems to be really serious about it. People should vote those who will do something to eradicate garbage and mosquito problems,” he observed.
The Congress’s Mayoral candidate for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Giribala Behera said, “If I win the election, I will take concrete steps to end the menace. We will adopt every possible ways to free Cuttack residents from mosquito problem.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mayoral candidate, Sritam Das, who is born and brought up in Cuttack city, said the use of Gambusia fish, anti-mosquito oil and mosquito fogging has long been stopped. “If I am voted to power, I will restart all the methods to end the menace. Most importantly, we will create awareness among the people,” Das said.
Similarly, the BJD’s Mayoral candidate Subash Singh said he has already devised plans to fix the problem. “Controlling the mosquito menace is my top priority. I have identified the mosquito breeding spots. If I become Mayor, I will start implementing all the possible ways to give Cuttack residents a mosquito-free city. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has plans to give the required facelift to the city. So, the mosquito problem will no longer exist,” said Singh.
