Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday assured that the construction work for the new Rayagada Railway Division is in progress and the proposed Gunupur-Therubali railway line and all other developmental projects in the State will be expedited.

The newly-inducted Union Cabinet minister who is on a visit to Rayagada district today, as part of BJP's Jan Ashirwad Yatra, said collective development could be achieved with the cooperation of all.

He further said that the Modi-led Central government is committed towards the overall development of the eastern parts of India, particularly Odisha

The Centre will work for the development of railways, transportation, education, water resources, tribal development and telecommunications in the State, stated Vaishnaw.

“After interacting with the people of Rayagada during my visit, many issues have come to my notice. The problems related to the construction of Rayagada Railways Division and Gunupur-Therubali railway line will be reviewed and the work will be expedited. Work will be taken up to develop connectivity in the region and installation of mobile phone towers soon,” said Ashiwni.

Ashwini received a rousing welcome from local party workers on his arrival at the Rayagada Railway Station in the morning. He visited Maa Majhighariani Temple and offered prayers before embarking on the Yatra and participated in a plantation drive.

Later in the day, Ashwini also met Padma Shri awardee and social worker Shanti Das in Rayagada and sought her blessings. Ashwini said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to meet her personally.

“It was a pleasure meeting Padmashree Shanti Das Ji in Rayagada. Her contribution for education of tribal girls and peace in Naxal affected areas is indeed very inspiring,” informed the Union Railways Minister in a tweet.

The 86-year-old has dedicated her life towards working for tribal women and children. She was among the six Padma Shri recipients this year.

Later, Ashwini also visited the new Rayagada Railways Division and reviewed the Divisional building plan.

The Jan Ashirwad Yatra is being organised by the saffron party to inform people about the achievements of the BJP-led Central government in internal, external, economic, social, health spheres and programmes aimed at boosting employment through focus on self-reliance. This would also be done through banners, hoardings and advertisements.
