The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha has accused the Naveen Patnaik- led BJD government of being responsible for the tragic death of 30-year-old Dusmanta Das who died by suicide on September 8. Before BJP already Demanded CBI Inquiry, Implementation Of Ayushman Bharat.

Addressing a presser at the party office in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, BJP leader Bibhu Prasad Tarai alleged that the Dusmanta, a native of Kujang in Jagatsingpur district was actually ‘killed’ by the government as he had allegedly been denied treatment under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BKKY).

Tarai asked, "Is the Capital Hospital not equipped to treat a patient who had consumed poison? If not, why wasn’t he shifted to a private hospital for treatment immediately?"

He also raised questions over the delay in shifting Das to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after the treatment at the Capital hospital proved inadequate. "Why did it take two and half hours to shift him to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack from the Capital Hospital,” he asked.

"Even at the SCB, why was Dusmanta kept in the general ward instead of ICU," he further questioned, adding, “the chain of events raises doubts if Dusmanta was actually left to die.”

However, there has been no response from the Government and Capital Hospital authorities over the allegations.

It may be noted here that Dusmanta had attempted suicide by slitting his wrist and consuming poison in front of the Odisha Assembly over alleged denial of treatment under the Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana (BKKY) on September 8.
He succumbed while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on the same night.
