The Opposition BJP on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik accusing him of destroying the dignity of the State Assembly by remaining absent from the House during the monsoon session which concluded today.

“In the eight working days of the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly, we did not see Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the House for a single day. Last time, we had reached Naveen Niwas in search of the Chief Minister. Similar situation occurred this time too,” said Deputy leader of Opposition Bishnu Charan Sethi.

Addressing a presser in Bhubaneswar, Sethi alleged that though the party moved five adjournment motions during the session, the Congress party acted as a roadblock. He termed the Congress party as the B-Team of the ruling BJD.

BJP Chief Whip Mohan Majhi also targeted the government for refusing discussion on the allegations of mining irregularities in the State and alleged that the Speaker has become a puppet in the hands of the government.

“The Opposition party has been raising the mining scam issue in the State since yesterday. However, the government refused to have discussion on the issue on apprehension of getting exposed. The government tried to dodge by stating that it (mining scam) was not a present occurrence,” alleged Majhi.

The party leaders said the death of Dusmanta Das in suicide bid in front of the Assembly has exposed the truth behind the government’s own health scheme Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana (BKKY) and demanded implementation of Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

Moreover, the party demanded the arrest of MLA Prashant Jagdev, who was suspended from BJD after he was purportedly seen thrashing a senior Nagar BJP leader in full public glare at Balugaon area in Khordha district.
