Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Byomakesh Ray was shown black flags by local youths at Ghatapur Panchayat under Chandbali block of Bhadrak district on Saturday.

According to sources, the legislator was on his way to Ghatapur panchayat to attend the Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha programme, when some youths came onto the side of the road and waved black flags at him.

The youths alleged that they waved black flags at him because he has not visited the panchayat even once in the last five years.

“He has not visited our panchayat even once in the last five years. He had not visited even when cyclone ravaged our panchayat. Our panchayat is a flood-prone area. During floods, our villagers didn’t get any relief. We would have hurled eggs at him,” said Prasanna Kumar Das, an agitator.

“MLA Byomakesh Ray and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s popularity can be understood from the crowd that attended the event,” said  BJD leader Ashok Bal.
