A BJD leader was arrested by the police on Tuesday for allegedly tearing the tender papers of 11 bidders kept inside Saharpada block office in Keonjhar district. 

The accused has been identified as Karuna Sagar Khatua,  Keonjhar district Vice-President of the ruling regional political party. Khatua is a resident of Dubeipanth village under Saharpada of the district.

A complaint in this regard was lodged at the Patana Police Station by the Block Development Officer (BDO) Lambodar Khuntia.

As per reports, June 21 i.e. Monday was the deadline for the submission of the demand draft of the tender flouted for the construction of 47 school buildings and boundary walls at an estimated cost of around Rs 10,00,000 in the district.

However the same day, Khatua allegedly barged into the BDO office and took the demand drafts of 11 tender holders, amounting to Rs 66,000, kept on the table of the head clerk at the block office and tore them into pieces.

Based on the complaint, Khatua was arrested on Tuesday by Patana Police and forwarded to the court, added reports.

"Khatua was arrested under sections 451,379, 186 and 332 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He barged into the office and tore the tender papers into pieces. He was arrested and later forwarded to the court," informed Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)Rabindra Kumar Mallick.
