Ghaziabad: A village panchayat imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on a murder accused and forced the victim`s husband to withdraw the case against the alleged killer, police said today.
Sonu had allegedly shot dead his aunt on Saturday evening in a wooded area at Babugarh area, the ASP of Panchsheel Nagar said. The victim`s husband, Somesh, had lodged a case against three people including Sonu.
The panchayat, however intervened in the murder case and on Monday, imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Sonu and allegedly pressurised Somesh to withdraw the case. Police has arrested two persons and warned action would be taken against panchayat members if they try to disrupt the investigations.
