You must have noticed a red light at the end of the last compartment of a train which blinks during night. Ever thought what the purpose of this red light is. Read on to know about it.
Before informing about the purpose of the red light, first let us understand the meaning and importance of big ‘X’ written on the last compartment and ‘LV’ board hung on it.
The ‘X’ denotes that the compartment is the last compartment of the train. Similarly, ‘LV’ means ‘Last Vehicle’. These symbols are to tell people that the passing compartment is the last compartment.
In case, anyone finds the last compartment of a train doesn't have ‘X’ of ‘LV’ symbol, s/he should understand that there is something wrong that has happened to the train and immediately alert the nearest railway station.
This apart, only after seeing the last compartment with ‘X’ mark cross the station, the station master gives permission to the station master of the previous station to leave another train.
But the ‘X’ mark and ‘LV’ board works during day time as they are not noticeable in dark.
During night, the red light at the end of the last compartment works the same for ‘X’ mark and ‘LV’ board.
