A youth died while another sustained critical injuries after unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked them with sharp weapons late Tuesday night in Bolangir district.

The deceased has been identified as Saroj Panigrahi, a resident of Sarobarapada. The injured, Prema Sahu, hails from Kandhapalipada in the western Odisha town.

As per reports, the duo was returning home after watching Sital Sasthi when the miscreants attacked them with sharp weapons near Nrusingha temple.

Following the attack, both the youths were rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for treatment where Saroj succumbed to his injuries.

Sahu is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital and his condition is stated to be critical. While the miscreants fled the spot after the attack, Bolangir Town police have launched a probe to nab the culprits.

Meanwhile, the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, a decomposed body was found inside a house at Salepali village in Bolangir district on May 17. The police subsequently cracked the case and arrested the deceased's brother for the murder.
