An Allegation of murder has surfaced after a mutilated body of a youth was found near the railway tracks close to Poonama Gate Flyover in the vicinity of the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Swaraj Behera, a resident of Gosagareswar Chowk in Old Town.
According to sources, locals spotted the body of the youth with severe injuries and wounds resembling sharp cuts on his back and body and subsequently informed the deceased's family.
However, the case has sparked a jurisdictional dispute, with Behera's family claiming they are caught between two police stations.
After recovering the body, the youth’s family reportedly approached the Government Railway Police (GRP) but alleged that police refused to lodge a murder complaint and instead asked them to approach the Airfield Police Station.
In an ironic twist, Airport Police allegedly sent them back to GRP, claiming it to be under their jurisdiction. As per the last reports, the body remains at Capital Hospital, awaiting a post-mortem, with neither side taking responsibility for initiating the investigation.
Meanwhile, family members revealed that Behera had been missing since last night after participating in New Year’s Day celebrations. Kin of the deceased suspect that Behera might have been murdered following a dispute or argument during the party.
The deceased’s family also ruled out chances of Behera being involved in a train mishap based on the nature of the wounds.
“We received a call today morning informing us that he was found dead. If anyone were to see the deep cuts on his body, they would instantly detect that it is a case of slashing and murder,” said the deceased’s brother.
As per the last reports, no comments could be obtained from either the GRP or Airfirled Police Station authorities.
