Youth found hanging in Cuttack Taladanda Canal, suicide suspected

A youth was found hanging from a pole in the Taladanda Canal near SCB Medical College and Hospital in Ranihat area of Cuttack City early Sunday morning. Locals spotted the body at about 7:15 am and informed the local police which then recovered the body.

Sources indicated the circumstances of the incident could be suicide. However, police have maintained that the cause of death will be ascertained only after reviewing nearby CCTV footage and conducting a post-mortem of the body.

Additional reports cited eyewitness accounts and mentioned that the youth was spotted walking around a stretch of the canal multiple times before being found hanging from a cable wire that passed through one of the Taladanda Canal’s railings.

“The youth had climbed up one of the poles but I mistook him for an electrician and did not pay much attention. A few minutes later, that same youth was found hanging from the pole,” added an eyewitness present at the scene.

Locals from the Ranihat area also stated that the youth could not be identified as a resident of Ranihat or the nearby areas.

Incidentally, the entirety of events happened at around 7 am on a Sunday when plenty of morning walkers and cyclists throng the particular stretch of the canal road. It is unclear as to how the youth managed to go undetected when possibly attempting to take his own life.

Till the last reports came in, the identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, police are carrying out an investigation but have not offered any comments so far.
