Youth critically injured in murderous attack during wedding procession in Odisha

A youth named Banti was critically injured in an attack during a wedding procession in Sana Ustapada, Ganjam. The assault arose from past enmity, leading to severe palm injuries. He has been shifted to Cuttack for treatment as his condition deteriorated.

A youth was left in critical condition following an alleged assault stemming last night from previous enmity in Sana Ustapada village situated under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district, police sources said on Monday.

The incident unfolded during a wedding procession, where a heated verbal exchange escalated, resulting in the youth being attacked with a sharp weapon.

The victim, identified as Banti, suffered severe injuries, with around 90 percent of his palm being severed.

Victim shifted to Cuttack in critical condition

In a bid to save his life, Banti was shifted from Kodala to Berhampur, and subsequently to Cuttack for further medical care after his condition deteriorated.

While the exact motive behind the violence remains unclear, initial investigations by the Kabisuryanagar Police indicate that a past feud may have been a contributing factor. Law enforcement officials are looking into the incident to uncover more details.

However, no comments were received either from the victim youth or local police.

Earlier in another incident, a youth was allegedly beaten to death by a group of 11 persons late on the night of January 15 in Cuttack City.

The deceased was then identified as Sumanta Sahu, a resident of Gobindpur village under Banki police limits of Cuttack district.

The youth was on his way back home, after attending a local fair at Bada Bandiani temple in Tigiria locality, when he was attacked by the assailants leading to his untimely death.

The assailants, who had been waiting for Sumanta, had ambushed him on the road using abusive language and provoking an argument.
