In a shocking incident, a sweeper engaged at the Casualty Ward of Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital was allegedly raped by a supervisor on the hospital premises.

Although the incident occurred on May 7, the matter came to the fore after the victim narrated her ordeal and lodged a written complaint against the accused with Mangalabag police station recently.

Based on a complaint by the victim, police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused who is absconding since the incident.

According to the complaint, the victim is engaged by an outsourcing agency at the casualty ward of SCB Medical College and Hospital. The supervisor allegedly called the victim on the pretext of sweeping the SR Hostel where he allegedly raped her.

He reportedly threatened her with dire consequences if she dared to lodge a complaint or tell anyone about the incident. However, the victim approached the outsourcing agency and narrated her ordeal.

She finally lodged a written complaint with Mangalabag police station after the agency did not take any action in this regard.

“There has been an allegation against the supervisor that he has raped one of his employees while she was cleaning hostel rooms. Although the incident occurred on May 7, it has been reported late. We have launched a probe in this connection,” said Sk. Sarifuddin, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cuttack UPD.
