A woman reportedly managed to prevent her husband from marrying for the second time in Patnagarh town of  Bolangir district on Thursday.

According to sources, the woman was married to Prakash Haripal of Salepali years ago. However, days after marriage, she was allegedly forced to leave for her parents' house due to 'torture' by her husband.

The divorce of the couple is pending at the court when Haripal planned to marry another woman.

After coming to know of it, Haripal’s first wife stormed into the marriage mandap and stopped the marriage mid-way.

Later, she lodged a written complaint at the police station.

“I married Prakash Haripal on April 29, 2015. While our divorce case is pending, he was marrying for the second time. The divorce document my husband showed was fake.  He can marry only after the divorce,” said the complainant.

When asked, the woman’s father Narayan Bag said, “Her in-laws tortured her for dowry. One day, he left my daughter at our house saying he would go for training. Her in-laws never turned up to take my daughter back. They said they would take her back only when the dowry is given.

He has not yet divorced her, but was marrying another woman.”

No reaction from the police or Haripal has been received.
