Tension gripped Paralakhemundi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Tuesday after a woman allegedly roughed up a doctor, accusing him of serving a wrong post-mortem report.

Sources said, the body of Soudamini Raita, Class IX student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Paralakhemundi was found hanging on the hostel campus on February 22, 2023. While the school authorities had alleged she had committed suicide, the deceased’s family members cried foul. They had alleged she had been murdered in a planned manner.

Initially, the investigation into the case was conducted by the Paralakhemundi Police. But, following the family members’ dissatisfaction over the investigation, the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch.

Today morning, the deceased girl’s mother Sugyani reached the DHH and allegedly attacked Dr Rashmi Ranjan Mishra, the doctor who had performed the post-mortem on her daughter’s body, in his chamber.

“I got infuriated because he (the doctor) had not mentioned the marks found on her body. I asked him what he would lose if my daughter got justice,” said Sugyani.

When asked, Dr. Mishra said, “I was attending to patients in my chamber when she came, hurled filthy languages, and manhandled me.”
The DHH authorities said they would lodge a police complaint in this regard.

“I have informed the police, the Collector, the SP, and the CDMO. Once I receive the doctor’s written complaint, I will forward it,” said DHH’s medical officer, Pradeep Panda.
